- SPECIES INFORMATION: ROBOTS -

"What is a robot?"

A robot, within the universe Cross takes place in, are artificial, human-like androids that (for the most part) look, behave and have the same or better intelligence capabilities as humans. Initially created for nefarious purposes, they have the same autonomy and independence that humans do, but can be programmed to follow specific instructions and rules, with it being essentially "burned" into their psyche unless a major change happens to them emotionally or mentally. In Cross, robots are used for more physically intensive purposes, such as combat and factory work.

"What specifically sets them apart from humans?"

Internally, their anatomy is nearly identical, as if someone took the internals of a human and turned them into artificial materials.

Externally, robots are made to not resemble humans in the finer details. Skin colour, hair, eyes and similar are deliberately unnatural-looking to distinguish them from humans (otherwise, they'd be indistinguishable). Their skin is incredibly durable, resembling the plasticity of rubber with the feel of human skin, hair is made up of, well, hair-like steel fibers that are similarly very durable, yet feel nearly identical to human hair. The outer lines where their joints are cannot be hidden, as they are used for getting access to internals without breaking the skin.

The given age of a Robot is not equal to how long they've been alive, as they are instead coded to be a certain age and remain that way permanently.

Disassembly references CW Body Horror and (censored) nudity. Excuse the outdated art, too.
